Gastrointestinal problems

There is nothing more annoying than walking around all day with gastrointestinal complaints. Most people have their own “upset stomach routine” – whether it’s rice crackers, a light fizzy drink, or just extra relaxation, we know the way to “fix” ourselves … but how do you help your pet who can’t tell you what’s wrong?

Causes of gastrointestinal complaints in dogs

Digestive complaints in dogs can be caused by a wide range of factors. As in humans, the complaints are often diet-related. This can be anything from eating too much food or eating too quickly or changing food or eating something that is not good for them.

The symptoms are not breed-specific, so from Golden Retriever to Chihuahua, the chances of nausea, gastrointestinal problems are just as high. However, older dogs are more susceptible to nausea than puppies.

Symptoms of gastrointestinal problems in dogs:
Excessive drooling
Excessive licking
Excessive chewing
The easily digestible salmon and turkey in Cannadog and Pro-dog food help prevent gastrointestinal problems. In addition, many dogs benefit from a wheat gluten free diet.

Joint pain and inflammation – our tip: opt for Cannadog Curcumin+

Animals like to be active; it is their natural instinct. Painful joints, arthritis, inflammatory joint disease or other illnesses can cause our pets to become less mobile.

Although many joint problems (including arthritis in dogs and cats) cannot be cured, they can be managed if treated early. If you notice that your pet is reluctant to run or jump, whines when you touch a certain area, or skips his favourite activities, it is time to take action.

A pet in pain does not feel at its best, it is as simple as that. Pain can result from an endless list of ailments and inflammation is one of the most common causes.

Inflammation comes in many forms, such as bronchitis, colitis, arthritis, and pancreatitis. Sufficient exercise, no stress, a fit weight, and good nutrition are all important factors in potentially reducing your four-legged friend’s inflammation.

Signs of pain in dogs are very subjective and difficult to measure, as dogs instinctively hide their pain.

Not only do we want to reduce pain for the dog’s comfort, but also because pain delays healing, disrupts immune function and reduces appetite, all of which can put the dog in a further weakened state.

Itching and skin problems

Fast fact: There are more than 160 different skin diseases in dogs, and many of them cause itching.

Some breeds more prone to skin diseases: Boxers, Bulldogs, retrievers (Chesapeake Bay, Curly-Coated, Flat-Coated, Golden, Labrador), Shar-peis, Beagles, Dalmatians and Irish Setters.

My dog has itchy skin, but is it really a skin condition?

Most dogs can itch a little from time to time, but how do you know when it is a skin condition? Normal skin in dogs will have these characteristics:

  1. Soft and smooth
  2. No redness or flaking
  3. Not too greasy, not too dry
  4. No hair loss

Fortunately, there are natural treatments that provide relief for itchy skin, and it starts with nutrition.

A dog diet is often overlooked, but almost every breed of dog has food sensitivities.

Skin lesions or itching together with red and inflamed ears and possibly diarrhoea are classic signs of food allergy. A dull, coarse and rough coat and/or oily, smelly skin are characteristics of a poor quality diet.

Cardiovascular disorders – our tip choose Cannadog Curcumin +

The most common symptoms of kidney problems are loss of balance, vomiting, depression, increased drinking and urination and lack of appetite.

The most common symptoms of liver disease are loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhoea and dehydration (symptoms common to many diseases). Jaundice, a yellowish discolouration of the whites of the eyes and gums, can also occur.

The heart is a muscle that pumps blood through the body, transporting oxygen, nutrients and waste products. If your dog has a heart problem, the blood is not being pumped around effectively. This can cause water and moisture to accumulate in organs such as your dog’s lungs, making him short of breath and less active. He may also lose his appetite, lose weight and fluid may accumulate in his abdomen giving rise to a swollen belly.

Your dog’s diet is an important part of treating heart disease – you can make a difference for your dog. The right diet can delay the development of heart disease, reduce the need for medication and significantly improve your dog’s quality of life. Fatty acids from fish oil (Omega-3 fish fatty acids) and Curcumin have a proven positive effect on cardiovascular diseases in dogs.
